ABOUT MILO’S PLACE

This charming home, originally constructed in 1898, has undergone a heartfelt restoration, capturing the essence of warmth and nostalgia. Its story revolves around a special young boy, Milo, who left a lasting impact on the property owners’ hearts. The journey began when the property was acquired in anticipation of an expanding family through adoption. Regrettably, the adoption did not go as planned, leaving the house no longer needed for a family. Undeterred, the owners decided to transform it into an extraordinary Airbnb that would pay tribute to their beloved baby, Milo, born on September 1, 2022. Each aspect of this home’s design embodies the love and care that Milo brought into their lives during the brief yet meaningful time they had together while also giving a nod to the home’s era and history.

THE CHALLENGE

Amidst a home brimming with significance, the client sought distinctive wallpaper that would represent cherished memories, symbols of personal importance and nods to the home’s era and history. Their goal was to infuse the space with color, texture, and captivating elements that would pique interest and create a visually engaging atmosphere.

THE SOLUTION

We created two unique wallpapers, each serving a specific purpose. The first design adorned the formal living room and artfully incorporated symbols representing Milo’s home state. To harmonize with the overall ambiance of the house, we infused a refreshing color palette, mirroring the light and bright tones utilized throughout the space. As for the main floor bathroom, we crafted a playful and lively pattern, featuring a vibrant array of colors that exude a sense of joy and energy.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

For Team Abovo, this project was a dream come true. While we’ve successfully crafted numerous large murals before, creating repeating patterns and textures for custom wallpaper was an entirely new and exciting challenge. Our goal was to honor the home’s historical character while ensuring the design felt fresh and modern—not outdated or worn. This project earned the Gold Award from Home Magazine by Trendsetters as the top interior design project of 2024—a fan-voted recognition celebrating its creativity, craftsmanship, and storytelling. It’s an honor to see this heartfelt collaboration take center stage and a true testament to the power of design to transform a space and share a meaningful story.
