How do you design a container as sweet as farm fresh, small batch gelato? That was the question Team Abovo tackled in creating the pint package design for Duchessa Gelato.
THE CREATIVE CHALLENGE
Duchessa Gelato has an interesting story to tell and share. Originally from the Netherlands and filled with North Dakota pride, owner Maartje Murphy and her mother Conny Van Bedaf hand craft gelato where they get their milk supply – on the family’s dairy farm in Carrington, ND. This dynamic duo is as creative, talented and fun as their product.
THE CREATIVE SOLUTION
Doodle art. Mashing together all things gelato, allows the Duchessa story to be told in a modern, fresh way. The clear container, sourced by the client, allows the colors and texture of the product to shine though. Product flavors are filled in by hand on a “blank” space, an outline of the state of North Dakota, allowing the containers to be mass produced, controlling costs.
AWARD WINNING
Duchessa Gelato’s packaging earned Team Abovo a “Silver” American Advertising Federation (AAF) Award for 2019 in the state of North Dakota in the category of SALES & MARKETING: SALES PROMOTION: PACKAGING. The AAF’s annual award program honors excellence in advertising/marketing and cultivates the highest creative standards and is the only creative awards program administered by the advertising industry for the industry. Each year, AAF members across the country enter more than 40,000 samples of their best work which makes these awards the world’s largest advertising competition.
